Welcome to Sun Leaf Counseling! 🌞🌿
As summer fades and the rhythm of school schedules and fall activities begin again, this is a gentle reminder to take a breath and ease into the shift. At Sun Leaf Counseling, we believe each new season is an opportunity—not just for fresh routines, but for deeper connection, reflection, and care.
In this edition, you’ll find grounding practices designed for children and families, important dates that highlight advocacy and community kindness, and meaningful activities to nurture connection between caregivers and children. Each piece is intended to support your family in finding calm, purpose, and togetherness as you move through the season.
From my heart to yours, thank you for being part of this growing community.

Grounding Exercises for Children and Families
Ground Your Feet
Join your child in this calming grounding exercise. Invite your child to sit or stand and feel their feet on the ground. Say, "Can you press your feet down and feel the floor holding you up?". Then, you can encourage them to wiggle their toes or stomp gently to connect them with their body in the present moment.
Rainbow Hunt
Follow along with this grounding technique by inviting your child to look around the room and name one thing they see for each color of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple). This technique helps your child have a visual focus and color connected to feelings of calm and grounding. You may even enjoy this strategy yourself!
Caregiver Connection Activities

Community Kindness: Advocacy For All Ages
Special Dates: September 21 is International Day of Peace and October 25 is Make a Difference Day. Each of these days reminds us that even small acts of kindness and service can spread hope and peace—especially during difficult times.
Family Activity: Bring your family together for a kindness brainstorm and choose a simple service project you can do as a team on one or both of these special days—such as cleaning up a park or putting together care kits for those in need. Invite extended family or friends to join in and help turn it into a community effort to share compassion and support with others.
Read Aloud: Try reading a book like, “We Are the Builders” by Romina Galotta that shows how even the smallest hands and hearts can help build a better, kinder world - one action at a time. Read aloud together as a family and ask, “If you could build something to help others - like a place, a rule, or a tool - what would it be and why?”.
