How frequently should I attend sessions?
Session frequency is something you will discuss with your counselor during the intake process because frequency of session varies depending on needs and desired outcomes. However, most clients start with weekly sessions, and then may adjust the frequency to every other week or monthly as progress is made.

What is play therapy and how does it work?
Play therapy is a developmentally appropriate counseling approach that creates a safe environment to allow children ages 3-9 to process and resolve difficult emotions, in addition to development of healthy coping and problem solving skills. Each toy in the playroom is chosen for a therapeutic purpose. The toys can be thought of as a child’s words and their play is the language they speak. As a parent or guardian, how can I expect to be involved in my child’s counseling at Sun Leaf?
Parent/Guardian consultations are an important part of the therapy process for children and teens. The counselors at Sun Leaf Counseling aim to meet with parents and guardians every 3-5 sessions. Your child's counselor will keep you informed through regular feedback to help you support your child at home and school. Active involvement in your child's emotional growth is key to their progress. It’s also important to be as open-minded as possible to implementing new tools and changes in parenting techniques at home as feedback is shared. Remember, counseling is a process, not a quick fix, with each step contributing to long-term growth. The goal is for you to be a supportive ally, offering encouragement and understanding as your child navigates their challenges.

How is progress measured in therapy at Sun Leaf Counseling?
Your counselor will work collaboratively with you to determine goals that will guide your treatment and determine how your progress will be measured over time. Typically, progress is measured through ongoing dialogue and informal assessments at regular intervals determined based on your individual needs and session frequency. Some clients see significant improvements in a few months, while others benefit from longer-term support.
